Final Illustration
I chose salty as my taste to illustrate. My soap bar would have the scent of driftwood, sea salt, water lilies, and a hint of seaweed.
Group Presentation
Our group’s presentation slide for Leslie to critique. We decided on a color palette and the Art Nouveau style early on to have a cohesive look.
Thumbnails
I decided on anchovies, olives, and capers to depict salty as a taste. I focused on how mirroring could complement the main illustration in the center, but also on readability since the soap tin will be small.
Tight Sketches
After discussion with my group and professors, I narrowed down on these 3 thumbnails.
Value Studies
After adding values and my possible color palette, I went to Leslie for critique. She enjoyed all of them but thumbnail 4 stood out the most. She suggested a more natural movement of the olives in perspective, making the type larger and following the movement of the banner.
First Critique
For first critique, Leslie complimented our group’s work for its consistency and teamwork. For my piece specifically, she suggested making the anchovies stand out more against the background and making the decorative elements larger. Lastly, she suggested moving the placement of the olive on the right.
First Critique Mockup
Overall, I’m very proud of work given the tight time constraint. I loved working with a group and gaining helpful critique from my professors, and Leslie, who were seasoned in helping me during my process.
I’m grateful to have been selected as a Presto finalist and big thanks to my team!
